Reactions to the Ravens' trade for CB Tre'Davious White

According to multiple reports, the Baltimore Ravens have traded cornerback Tre'Davious White. Below are the reactions from the staff here at Baltimore Beatdown.

Not the move Ravens fans were hoping for, and it will be met with trepidation compared to other moves in the AFC North. Even without comparison, this is not a significant step.

A star first-rounder for the Buffalo Bills in 2017, White made an immediate impact, finishing second in voting for the 2017 Defensive Rookie of the Year. He had an excellent start to his career in 2020, recording 15 interceptions, 54 passes defended, four forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and a touchdown. He was a two-time All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowler during that time, but suffered a torn ACL in 2021 and has not returned to shutdown status. Since then, he has played 14 games in three seasons, hampered by injuries including a torn Achilles tendon in October 2023.

In 2024, Tre'Davious White was ranked the No. 110 cornerback (out of 117) in coverage grade by PFF. He has allowed nine receptions on 13 targets for 151 yards and four touchdowns for a quarterback rating of 147.8.

The trade itself is a good one, as the Ravens sent next to nothing to acquire White and have the benefits of a former star and player with decent depth for their struggling secondary.

All in all, purely in terms of commercial value, it's good. But when expectations were so high for an all-in team, this team feels lackluster. — Kyle Phoenix

There can never be enough corners, especially with one of the worst pass defenses in the league. That's somewhat unexpected for a Ravens team that was assumed to be focused on pass rushers at the deadline, but White has a proven pedigree both outside and in the slot. He will give Zach Orr more options on the back end with fewer three-safety sets.

Importantly, it's incredibly cheap, with EDC flipping a 2026 7th-round pick for White and a 2027 7th-round pick. Baltimore still has ammunition for a pass rusher. — Nikhil Mehta

I could take it or leave it. The secondary actually struggled this season, but lack of talent wasn't the issue. White was once a talented player, but injuries have slowed his career tremendously over the last two seasons. Ultimately, this is an acquisition that costs nothing in a competitive field. He could come in and revive his career, playing excellent football and taking snaps from Brandon Stephens, who struggled to make plays this year but had tight coverage. Or he could come in, struggle and not get many snaps when it matters most.

As long as White doesn't interfere with Nate Wiggins' shots, this is a risk-free move for a position group that the great Ozzie Newsome once said you can never have enough of. Now get a pass rusher. — Zach Canter
