HAMDEN, Conn. – For the third straight year, the Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team will face the Maine Black Bears in a preseason series. This edition will take place at the Alfond Arena in Orono, Maine.

The No. 7/8 Bobcats cruised to a 3-2 victory over Big Ten foe Penn State, scoring the first three goals of the game and holding off a Nittany Lions attack to secure the season-opening win. The No. 9/10 Black Bears come to town after two wins to start their season, beating AIC 6-0 in the season opener and Army 5-0 in the exhibition game last weekend.

Where there is a Wilm… There is a way

  • Jeremy Wilmer scored the first and third goals of the night to help the No. 8 Bobcats to a 3-2 victory over Penn State in their season opener on Saturday night.
  • It was the Rockville Center native's first multi-goal game since the 2022/23 season and only the second of his career.
  • He also added his second career game-winner by scoring the goal the Bobcats needed to start the second frame.

NEW FACES, NEW PLACES

  • Quinnipiac welcomes 14 newcomers to the roster this season, with five transfers and nine freshmen on the 2024-25 Bobcat squad.
  • A pair of draft picks highlight the transfer class, as Charlie Leddy (Devils) and Nate Benoit (Wild) join the defensive core.
  • Chris Pelosi And Elliott Groenewold Both are newbies in the draft, as Pelosi was selected by Boston in the 2023 NHL Draft and Groenewold was drafted by the Bruins a year later.

All-rounder

  • After four seasons with Bill Riga and Holy Cross, Jack Ricketts is entering his fifth season with the Bobcats and enters the 2024-25 season as the nation's leading scorer.
  • His 46 goals over his college career puts him two ahead of Denver's Jack Devine and three ahead of three others for the top spot in the country.
  • He scored 35 of them in his last two seasons, including 19 a season ago, which helped him be named to the All-Atlantic Hockey Second Team.

PRE-SEASON HONORARY AWARDS

  • Second semester Mason MarcellusQuinnipiac's leading returning scorer, was named to the Preseason All-ECAC team in recognition of his offensive contributions a season ago.
  • He led Quinnipiac with five game-winning goals a season ago and is the league's top returning scorer with 36 points.

MODEL OF CONSISTENCY

  • The Bobcats have been one of the most consistent programs in Division I since advancing to the top tier of the NCAA in the 1999-2000 season. Of their 26 seasons, they have posted 21 seasons with 20 or more wins.
  • Quinnipiac has posted 30 wins the last two seasons and has only had two seasons with under 20 wins since the 2011-12 season.
  • Rand PecknoldThe club also has the longest active NCAA tournament appearance streak at five and is one of three teams to have reached at least eight of the last ten tournaments.
