Purdue coach Matt Painter delivers an epic quote about lineup woes

Purdue coach Matt Painter delivers an epic quote about lineup woes

2 minutes, 15 seconds Read

Matt Painter is entering his 20th season as Purdue's basketball coach. He has won five Big Ten regular season championships and two Big Ten Tournament titles and led the Boilermakers to 15 NCAA Tournament appearances. He knows a thing or two about winning at the highest level.

So when he hears complaints about his team's line-up during friendly matches, all he can do is shake his head and laugh.

There was some tidbit about certain lineups Purdue used during its exhibition games against Creighton and Grand Valley State. That's what fans do on social media these days. But Painter provided a great quote about those who complained.

“You're just trying to get people minutes and then some idiots tweet, 'Hey, I really don't like this lineup,'” Painter said. “Well, I'm just trying to get people minutes so they can get in a game and get some experience… you're up 47 in a tournament and you don't like the lineup. OK.”

Painter has become one of America's most popular coaches because of his honesty and quick-wittedness. On Sunday he delivered another great quote.

For those who didn't like Painter's rotations in the exhibition game, don't worry, you'll likely see some tightening up on Monday night. Purdue hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Mackey Arena to begin the regular season.

And if you don't like the lineup, no problem, you can still tweet about it. Just know that the next time the Purdue coach meets with reporters, you might get annoyed by the Purdue coach — and that will probably make the rest of us laugh.
