Proposed New York Jets trade would send Aidan Hutchinson to the Detroit Lions as a backup

Proposed New York Jets trade would send Aidan Hutchinson to the Detroit Lions as a backup

There have been positive signs in recent days that Haason Reddick could potentially move to the New York Jets in the coming days.

After hiring agent Drew Rosenhaus, Reddick may look to resolve his long delay.

The multiple Pro Bowl edge rusher has yet to play a game for the Jets, a big problem for a team that could use his help on the defensive side of the football.

While New York hasn't had much trouble defensively, adding a player who has recorded more than 50 sacks over the last four years would be a big help to their unit.

It is still uncertain what the delay was. Many have suggested he wants a long-term contract, but for a player who seemingly wants money, he's already lost nearly $10 million in fines.

Simply put, the whole situation didn't make much sense.

Hopefully the issue will be resolved for the Jets in the future.

If that doesn't happen, Reddick said he would be interested in playing for another team. After Aidan Hutchinson was sidelined with a season-ending injury on Sunday, the Detroit Lions could be one of the teams interested in his services.

The fit makes perfect sense, which is why Bleacher Report's NFL scouting department wrote that the Lions should add him “now.”

“This has been brought up before as the Lions could have used a second edge rusher prior to Hutchinson's injury. Now that the team will be without its best defense for the rest of the season, it makes even more sense to make a deal for Reddick, who was rated the No. 1 player on the NFL Trade Block Big Board. The former Eagle and current Jet is looking for a new contract, but Detroit has nearly $30 million in cap space to give him a new contract, according to Over The Cap.

Although Reddick is one of the NFL's best rushers, it's difficult to compare him to a player like Hutchinson. Hutchinson, who doesn't have the same stats as Reddick, is one of the best young players in the game.

Still, a Detroit team that wants to win a Super Bowl must find a replacement for the 24-year-old. Reddick would bring them a veteran who has played in big moments, including a Super Bowl.

If a trade were to happen, New York would also have to find a player who could help them win now.

It's hard to get a sense of what's happening with Reddick and his new agent, but at least there are finally positive signs.

If he doesn't want to play for the Jets, the Lions could be willing to trade away a player who could step in and make an impact. Perhaps this is the best outcome of this saga.
