Preview: Lanus vs Cruzeiro – prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Copa Sudamericana clash between Lanus and Cruzeiro, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

On Wednesday the first finalist of 2024 Copa Sudamericana will be announced when Lanus host Cruzeiro in the second part of this duel at the Estadio Ciudad de Lanus.

When these teams met in Brazil last week, Lanus equalized with less than 20 minutes left to secure a 1-1 draw on the road to Argentina.

Throughout the 2024 edition of this tournament, Lanus has responded well after conceding a goal, and they did so again last Wednesday.

Their four wins against Brazilian opponents in the Sudamericana have all come on their home pitch, although their only defeat in Lanus in this competition came in this season's group stage against Cuiaba (1-0).

Cruzeiro got the start they were hoping for in the first game in the second half, scoring six minutes after the restart, but couldn't hold on.

It was the second consecutive time they failed to secure a win at home in the competition this season by scoring the opening goal.

They picked up points in four of their five Sudamericana games away from home, with their only away defeat coming against Boca Juniors in the round of 16 (1-0).

Fernando Diniz has not won an away game since his move Fernando Seabra as coach in September, with Celeste failing to score an away goal since the man who led Fluminense to the Copa Libertadores title last year took over.

Raposa is winless in its last seven games in all competitions, losing 3-0 at home to Athletico Paranaense on Saturday.
