The closer it gets, the closer it gets.

Former President Donald Trump has a comfortable lead over Vice President Kamala Harris in all betting markets, but Harris has been gaining ground in recent days.

According to Real Clear Polling, Trump now has a 53.6% lead in betting odds over Harris (45.1%). Trump has been in the lead since early October and had a double-digit lead over Harris just last week.

Harris has had a big jump in the last 24 hours. As of Saturday afternoon, Trump's lead was 58.3 to 40.3.

Harris is gaining ground almost everywhere, but Trump is still ahead in every market.

BetOnline has Trump ahead 56-44. Betfair and Polymarket have a record of 52-44. Betsson, Bovada, Bwin and Polymarket all have odds of 54-46.

If you're hoping to win money with Harris, you'll want to place your bets now as her chances are just increasing. However, if you think Trump will be the next president, you might want to wait until his chances go down a bit to make more money.

In any case, you have two days to place your bets.

Bettors rate Trump's probability of winning higher than in previous elections

Trump's probability of victory is now just a few percentage points below the high the campaign reached on the opening day of the Republican National Convention. As of July 16, his odds of defeating Biden were over 70% on Polymarket and Betfair Exchange.

According to a 2004 article in the Journal of Economic Perspectives, the clear betting favorite only lost twice in the month before the election, in 1916 and 1948. Betting markets also failed to predict Trump's victory in 2016.
