New Orleans Saints cornerback Paulson Adebo is scheduled to undergo leg surgery after breaking his femur in Thursday's 33-10 loss to the Denver Broncos, coach Dennis Allen said.

Adebo was injured with 9:52 left in the second quarter. The 25-year-old had to be transported and before he was taken off the field, the Saints staff placed Adebo's leg in an air cast.

The injury was an unfortunate turn in the cornerback's tumultuous season. In a contract year, Adebo had a difficult start. Although he had three interceptions, his nine flags drawn – six for pass interference and three for defensive holding – were the second most in the NFL, behind Houston Texans left tackle Laremy Tunsil's 12. Adebo's 30-yard pass interference against the Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Darnell Mooney ultimately suffered a 26:24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in the final minute.

But before that, Adebo had a promising season in which he played at a high level. He helped the Saints overcome a season-ending injury to Marshon Lattimore in Week 10, and Adebo finished the year with four interceptions in 15 games.

After his injury, Adebo was replaced by Kool-Aid McKinstry – a second-round rookie out of Alabama.

Against the Broncos, Lattimore also left the Saints with a hamstring injury.
