Panathinaikos 1-4 Chelsea, UEFA Conference League: post-match reactions, reviews

1 minute, 8 seconds Read

In the first five minutes of the game it was all Panathinaikos.

Then for the next 85 minutes, plus added time, it was all Chelsea.

In the first half much of that control was of the dominant but not directly threatening variety, but midway through the half we scored the first goal when Mudryk set up Félix for a simple pass. We could have had more, but we lacked the true killer instinct to achieve it.

There were no such deficiencies in the second half, however, as the battle was quickly over with a three-goal volley in the first 15 minutes of the period. Félix got another goal, Mudryk also got a well-deserved one and Nkunku scored a penalty for good measure.

Both sides began to make changes and the home side could take comfort, but the result was never in danger or in doubt.

Carefree.

  • Not quite a complete B squad lineup, with Cucurella and Enzo starting: Cucu at left-back while Veiga slipped into central defense, just like his last appearance for Portugal.
  • Enzo captain, then Disasi
  • No debut for Rak-Sakyi or Mheuka, but plenty of minutes from George and Guiu and a run-out for Chukwuemeka
  • Until Disasi's late violation, he almost made it without a yellow card
  • Next up: Newcastle at home in the league, then Newcastle away in the League Cup
  • KTBFFH
