No. 9 volleyball falls in five sets to Missouri

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 9 Volleyball lost its second straight five-set match Friday at Gregory Gymnasium, falling to Missouri 25-21, 19-25, 25-17, 24-26, 10-15.

The Longhorns (12-5, 7-2) will be back in action Sunday against Oklahoma at Gregory Gym at 1 p.m.

Madisen Skinner led the team with 18 kills and recorded her third double-double of the season with 12 digs and three aces. Reagan Rutherford finished the match with 13 kills and hitting .455.

Marianna Singletary Added 11 kills and five blocks while Devin Kahahawai contributed 10 kills and four blocks.

The Longhorns took an early lead with a 25-21 win in the opening set. Ayden Ames was solid defensively in the first set with three blocks and helped Missouri post a .075 hitting percentage. Skinner led the way offensively with four kills and three digs while hitting .500.

Missouri stormed out to an 11-3 lead in the second set before Texas made a comeback. The Longhorns used a 10-2 run to come all the way back and tie the set at 13-1, but Missouri finished the set strong and took a 25-19 win.

The third set was a back-and-forth affair until almost halftime, when the teams were tied at 13. From then on, the Longhorns managed to pull away and take the lead to 17:13 with a 4-0 run. Texas hit .472 in the set, its best batting average of the game, and closed the set with a 4-0 run.

Missouri came back and won another back-and-forth set 26-24 to send the game to the fifth set, where the Tigers would complete the upset.
