No. 3 Terriers fall to No. 7 North Dakota

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The No. 3 Boston University men's hockey team fell to No. 7 North Dakota 7-2 on Friday night at Ralph Englestad Arena.

North Dakota (3-1-0) took a 5-0 lead in the first frame before increasing it to 6-0 early in the third period. BU (3-1-0) tied the score twice in the final 20 minutes with Senior Tristan Amonte and Junior Quinn Hutson Each scored their first goal of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• North Dakota scored a power play goal just 2:37 into the game and added another goal with its second man advantage at 6:22.
• The Fighting Hawks then scored three more goals and led 5-0 after 20 minutes.
• Junior Quinn Hutson hit the post during a BU power play in the first minute of the second stanza.
• The Fighting Hawks thought they had extended their lead to 6-0 late in the second period, but BU successfully contested the play because it was ruled offside.
• North Dakota increased the score to 6-0 just 40 seconds into the third period.
• Amonte responded just 57 seconds later. Copponi collected the puck in his own zone, dangled through a defenseman in the neutral zone and circled another defenseman in the North Dakota zone before passing the puck to Amonte at the top. Amonte defeated TJ Semptimphelter.
• The Hutsons tied it on the power play with 14:06 left when Cole Quinn scored in the left circle for a one-timer.
• Second semester Max Lacroix He made a great save on a breakaway with 12:30 to play to keep the deficit at four, but the Fighting Hawks added a seventh goal with 6:53 left to tie the score.
• Lacroix made two more great saves with 2:30 to play, stopping a breakaway with his left ball and then blocking the ensuing rebound attempt with his glove.

GAME NOTES

• Lacroix played 49:29 minutes in the final and recorded a career-best performance of 25 saves in just his second official collegiate appearance.
• Lacroix, who faced Harvard on Saturday, made his collegiate debut on Feb. 9 against Merrimack and stopped all six shots he faced as part of a 7-1 win.
• Amonte scored his first goal since lighting the lamp against Arizona State on January 7, 2022.
• Lachance has scored a point in all four games this season and leads the Terriers in both points (6) and assists (5).
