NFL Week 8 Big Bets Recap: Betting $10 on tight end TDs turns into $185,000

There was talk all day Sunday about National Tight Ends Day, with some of the most popular NFL Week 8 bets being on tight ends.

And some people made those bets really pay off. How cool would it be to turn a $10 bet into a whopping $185,000 just because a few tight ends found the end zone?

Well, very cool – and also very happy.

So keep that in mind as you read on to learn more about this bet, along with other notable combinations and big plays from NFL betting in Week 8 and college football in Week 9.

Parlay Party

When San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle caught a 2-yard touchdown pass against the Dallas Cowboys midway through the third quarter, there was certainly much joy. At FanDuel Sportsbook, a customer had a $10 contest full of tight ends like previous TD scorers

Everyone scored, and Kittle sealed the deal.

So $10 turned into a huge win of $185,211.36.

This $5 player prop parade of tight ends TDs netted one FanDuel bettor nearly $30,000:

Another FanDuel customer cashed in on a $40 parlay for more than $22,000, again betting on tight ends TDs Kittle scored in the Niners' 30-24 win over the Cowboys.

And why not extend National Tight Ends Day to the Monday night game between the New York Giants and the Pittsburgh Steelers?

A DraftKings Sportsbook customer put together a 10-leg parade of tight ends to score touchdowns at any time. The front nine is in and Pat Freiermuth from the Steelers can secure the win.

If that happens, the bettor's investment of $1 – at odds of +3245282 or approximately 32,453/1 – will be $32,453.82.

Hall of Fame in the game

Mobile app/online sports betting has evolved so quickly that it can line up some pretty amazing options. Many people have heard of same-play combo games, also called single-game combo games.

But how about single-drive parlays? During Sunday night's Cowboys-Niners game, a FanDuel bettor placed $5 at odds of +20,000 (200/1) that on a San Fran drive in the third quarter, the following would happen:

Brock Purdy 20 yards or more completed pass
Purdy runs 10 yards or more
Purdy scores a TD

On the second play of the drive, Purdy ran for 16 yards. On the next play, Purdy hit Kittle with a 27-yard reception. And Purdy capped the drive by forcing his way in from the 2-yard line for a touchdown.

So the bettor profited by $1,000. Not a bad ROI for a single drive within an NFL game.

We hope you had it

It's not just about paying out wild bets worth tens of thousands of dollars. If you multiply any bet by 75, that's a pretty good thing too.

In Thursday night's NFL Week 8 game between the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams, Fanduel had LA wideout Demarcus Robinson at +7500 (75/1) scoring two or more touchdowns. For almost three quarters, Robinson had no TDs.

He then caught a 25-yard pass from Matthew Stafford to give the Rams a 21-17 lead with 2:36 left in the third quarter. Midway through the fourth quarter, Stafford hit Robinson with a 10-yard TD pass to give LA a 28-20 lead, and the Rams won 30-20.

If you had bet just a fiver on Robinson's two-TD prop, you would have paid out a profit of $375. This gets you tons of Chili's Three-For-Me meals as well as limitless chips and salsa.

Also in the Vikings-Rams game, Minnesota's Josh Oliver – a tight end, of course – was +6000 on FanDuel and scored the first touchdown of the game. But that's exactly what he did. Five dollars for that would have brought in $300.

Finally, at Caesars Sports, Eagles QB Jalen Hurts scored +2600 to score three or more TDs against the Bengals. Hurts actually scored three times, which would have turned $5 into $130. It's not a ton, but the ROI can't be beat.

I like big bets and I can't lie

In the Week 9 college football odds and the Week 8 NFL odds, there were plenty of bets much larger than a $7,000 gamble on Wednesday's Liberty-Kennesaw State game. But as far as value for money goes, this one was pretty explosive.

At Caesars Sports, a customer deposited $7,000 on the Kennesaw State Moneyline +1450. These are the chances a team has of winning a game outright if the team is a 27-point underdog.

But Kennesaw State led for much of the game and eventually prevailed 27-24. So the customer received a profit of $101,500 (total payout of $108,500).

Other notable bets from Caesars Sports:

$120,000 Bears -2.5 vs. Commanders. Chicago loses 18-15 on a Hail Mary. Oof.
$110,000 Dolphins -4 vs. Cardinals. Miami loses 28-27 on a last-second field goal. Another win for the house.
$110,000 49ers -4 vs. Cowboys. This one gets there and the bettor wins $100,000 (total payout $210,000).
$50,000 Vikings -3 (even) vs. Rams. Another donation to the casino.
$57,500 Texas A&M Moneyline -115 vs. LSU. Aggies roll 38-23 and bettor wins $50,000 (total payout $107,500).
$55,000 Illinois +21.5 vs. Oregon. The Illini failed to post a 38-9 away loss.

The lost tickets should serve as a reminder that this is gambling. The same applies to all parlays mentioned above. There's a reason the odds on these exotic bets are high: because in most cases they don't cash.

So, as always, stay sensible. Never bet more than you can afford to lose.
