NFL Rumors: Jeffery Simmons trade not in Titans' plans amid Deandre Hopkins deal | News, results, highlights, statistics and rumors

According to Buck Reising of A to Z Sports Nashville, the Tennessee Titans have already become a hot sell ahead of the Nov. 5 trade deadline, but are not looking to trade defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons.

The Titans were busy on Wednesday.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport first reported that they are sending wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Kansas City Chiefs for a conditional fifth-round pick. Then NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that Tennessee was getting linebacker Jerome Baker and a fourth-rounder in exchange for linebacker Ernest Jones IV.

In particular, the team's stance on Simmons may reflect where his market currently stands.

The 27 year old wears this seventh largest The average salary ($23.5 million) for a center back doesn't provide that on-field value right now. After missing the Pro Bowl in 2023, he's on pace to make it two in a row based on his performance so far. In five games, he recorded 17 tackles, one sack and three tackles for a loss.

Simmons is also under contract through the 2027 season, so any team trading him would incur a heavy financial cost.

Tennessee could probably find a taker if it wanted out of his contract. There's a lot of potential for a player who had 16 total sacks between 2021 and 2022, and a change of scenery could make him more motivated.

However, with his trade value likely at an all-time low, this isn't a good time for the Titans to deal him. Simmons is not the type of player the franchise should accept whatever is on the table.

If a worthwhile offer comes along, Tennessee seems at least largely motivated to sell. But such a proposal is unlikely to happen thanks to Simmons' performance.
