Minnesota election results: Pete Stauber wins the 8th Congressional District

Republican incumbent Pete Stauber is the winner of what the Associated Press called Minnesota's 8th U.S. House of Representatives congressional district, which includes much of northeastern Minnesota.

Background to the race

Stauber won the Republican primary with 90.5% of the vote against Harry Welty. Schultz won the Democratic primary against John Munter, securing 91% of the vote.

This is the second time Schultz and Stauber have competed against each other. In 2022, Stauber defeated Schultz and continued to retain the seat.

Stauber has held the Eighth Congressional District seat since 2019.

Who is Pete Stauber?

Stauber has represented the Eighth Congressional District since 2019.

Stauber served on the House Transportation and Infrastructure, Small Business and Natural Resources Committees. Stauber was a member of the Natural Resources Committee and chairman of the Energy and Mineral Resources Subcommittee.

Before becoming a member of Congress, Stauber was a St. Louis County commissioner, a Hermantown city councilman and a Duluth police officer for more than 20 years.

Stauber's campaign focused on inflation, border security, American energy, Second Amendment rights and more.

Who is Jennifer Schultz?

Schultz has lived in Duluth for 20 years. She served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from St. Louis County from 2015 to 2022 and then retired from the House.

During his term as a state representative, Schultz served on several committees. Most recently, shortly before her retirement, she chaired the Human Services Finance and Policy Committee as well as the House Redistricting, Ways and Means, House Taxes and more committees.

Schultz was co-director of the Health Care Management Program and professor of economics at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

Schultz's campaign focused on reproductive rights, supporting working families, Social Security and Medicare, mining, climate change and more.
