National signing day is just around the corner, and Michigan football recruiting is already turning heads before December 4th.

The Wolverines made a big splash Friday night by flipping Chester (Va.) Thomas Dale 2025 four-star cornerback Shamari Earls of Georgia. The top-100 prospect nationally had been committed to the Bulldogs since June before verbally committing to Michigan in a social media post.

“After much thought, I have made the decision to recommit to the University of Georgia,” Earls wrote. “This decision was made for personal reasons and to find the best possible solution for myself, both academically and athletically. I am beyond excited to be committed to the University of Michigan.

“I look forward to the future and being a part of Coach Sherrone Moore's vision for sustained success and Coach Morgan's vision for the secondary to be the most competitive and disciplined secondary in the country!!!” Michigan is an exceptional place and I am honored to carry on the great legacy of those who came before me. Turn blue!”

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound player, ranked as the No. 87 overall prospect and No. 11 cornerback in the country according to the 247Sports Composite, is the second prospect the Wolverines signed from another school on Friday. Earlier this morning, three-star defensive back Benny Patterson of Newburgh (Ind.) left Castle Cincinnati to join Michigan's 2025 class, which is now up to 18 verbal commitments and ranked No. 13 nationally.

Earls is the fifth top-100 recruit for the Wolverines this cycle after the program ranked just one in the previous two classes combined. Last weekend he visited Ann Arbor to watch Michigan's 24-17 victory over Michigan State.

The talented defensive back has compiled an impressive offer list that includes a total of 30 schools, including Alabama, Penn State, Miami, Tennessee and Texas A&M. The Wolverines' secondary is arguably their biggest strength in their 2025 class. Earls joins Winter Garden (Florida). West Orange four-star corner Ivan Taylor, a top-100 prospect, Washington DC Gonzaga four-star safety Kainoa Winston (No. 123 overall) and Kilgore (Texas) four-star corner Jayden Sanders ( No. 213).

“Imposing edge curve with the ideal mix of size and speed. “Has made an impact in all three phases of the game since he was a sophomore in Virginia’s top class and has experience working in a variety of different coverages,” 247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins wrote in his scouting report Report. “Creates release breaks through pressing and does his best to mimic opponents' progressions as they progress through their routes. When facing forward, he is alert and plays with his hands to break up passes. However, when he turns his back on football, he needs to improve his overall perception. Can cross the field at his highest gear and prevent touchdowns in pursuit. The low tackling style gets the job done, but only adds greater value in run support if he can release with more authority.”
