Voters in Maine cast their ballots on Election Day.

The state has four votes in the Electoral College and polls close at 8:00 p.m. ET.

State significance

Maine last cast all four of its electoral college votes for a Republican presidential candidate in 1988, electing George H. W. Bush over Democrat Michael Dukakis. However, former President Donald Trump received one of the state's four electoral votes for his victory in the state's 1st Congressional District in both 2016 and 2020. (Unlike most states, Maine awards two votes to the state winner and one vote for each congressional district won.)

While Trump is once again in the lead in the 2nd Congressional District, it is expected to be closer than in the state's 1st Congressional District, where Harris is the overwhelming favorite. Following the election, the 2nd Congressional District will also host one of the closest congressional races in the country, pitting incumbent Democratic Rep. Jared Golden against Republican Rep. Austin Theriault.

Independent Senator Angus King also ran for re-election this year and is expected to prevail.

Counties are colored red or blue when the percentage of expected votes reaches a set threshold. This threshold varies by state and is based on past voting reporting patterns and expectations about how voting will occur this year.
