The Commercial Appeal has looked for all the answers to your Election Day questions to make sure you're well-informed ahead of the vote.

When do the polling stations open?

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. in Shelby County and Memphis

Voters in line by 7 p.m. can stay in line until they can cast their vote.

Where is my polling place in Memphis, Tennessee?

On election day, votes must be cast in the electoral district assigned to you. You can search for your precinct on a map on the Shelby County Election Commission website or search for your polling place and address on the Tennessee Secretary of State's GoVoteTN website.

Who is on the ballot?

Depending on where you live, there may be multiple races on your ballot.

Voters in Shelby County, as across the country, will see Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump star as the two strive to become the next president.

And all voters across Tennessee will vote to either return Senator Marsha Blackburn to Washington, DC, or send new representation to the capital by voting for Democrat Gloria Johnson or one of the three independent candidates in the race: Tharon Chandler, Pamela Jeanine “P.” ” Moses and Hastina Robinson. Moses and Robinson are from Memphis.

Where will the election results be after the polls close on Tuesday?

The election results for all local elections can be found on commercialappeal.com after the polls close. The Commercial Appeal will also publish the election results in print after the election on November 5th.

When will we find out the election results?

It depends on what breed it is. Most local and state races will be contested on election night, November 5th.

Voters should expect delays in learning who won this year's presidential election. This is partly because sweeping electoral laws and changes to voting access made in response to the coronavirus pandemic have led to polarized parliaments and become a source of division.

Key battleground states like North Carolina are suffering from the effects of Hurricane Helene, making the situation even more complicated. Other key states like Pennsylvania and Wisconsin don't begin processing absentee and absentee ballots until Election Day, slowing the counting process.

Due to the expected close race between Harris and Trump and the time it will take to count ballots, it is expected to take some time to determine a winner.

In 2020, it took four days to determine a winner.

Can I still register to vote?

No. The voter registration deadline has passed and you can no longer register to vote in this election.

Can I still receive a postal vote?

No. The last day to request a postal vote was October 29th.

Can I leave work to vote?

According to Tennessee state law, voters in Tennessee “have the right to take a reasonable amount of time off work, up to three hours, during poll hours in order to vote.”

Employers can specify an employee's absence times and require that the employee request election leave by noon on the day before the election.

What happens if I forget my ID?

If you forget your photo ID, you will vote on a provisional ballot. You then have two business days after Election Day to return to the Election Commission office and present a valid photo ID. At this point, the voter signs an affidavit and a copy of the voter ID is sent to the counting board for verification.

What happens if I vote for RFK Jr.?

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., previously an independent presidential candidate, will continue to appear on ballots across the country even after he has ended his campaign. Voters in Tennessee will continue to see Kennedy on their ballots.

According to Linda Phillips, elections director for Shelby County, votes for Kennedy are being counted and reported.

Kennedy dropped out of the presidential race and supported Trump.
