Live blog for Election Day 2024: Polling stations open

Polls open

Election Day polls opened at 7 a.m. statewide, allowing those who did not participate in early voting the opportunity to cast their ballot.

As of Monday morning, about 1.1 million Nevadans cast their votes in the general election, either by absentee ballot or in-person voting, for a total voter turnout of 53 percent.

So far, nearly 50 percent of those who have already spoken have voted by mail, including about 14 percent of Democrats and about 23 percent of Republicans.

Among those who had already voted, nearly 34 percent were Democrats and nearly 38 percent were Republicans. Registrations from other parties accounted for around 28 percent of the total participation.

To expedite the results reporting process, the Secretary of State issued guidance asking counties to begin tallying mail-in ballots on October 21, 15 days before Election Day. In-person early voting can be recorded as early as 8 a.m. on Election Day.

There is no restriction on processing mail-in ballots before this time frame, which may include, but is not limited to, sorting the ballots, verifying the signature on the return envelope, and storing the ballot in a secure location.

Although tallying begins Tuesday morning, unofficial results will not be released until all polling stations close and the last voter anywhere in the state has cast their ballot.

To vote on Election Day, voters must be in line at 7 p.m. tonight. Mail-in ballots must be postmarked by November 5th.
