LAWRENCE – Kansas basketball enjoys another opportunity to play a preseason exhibition game on Tuesday at home against Washburn.

The Jayhawks recently suffered an exhibition loss at Arkansas. Following “Late Night in the Phog” earlier this month, this Washburn matchup will be the first opportunity for KU fans to see their team take on another team in a newly renovated Allen Fieldhouse. Head coach Bill Self's squad will once again not be at full strength, but is bringing back one of the players who missed tonight's Razorbacks tournament.

Kansas is a Division I program. Washburn is a Division II program. And the Ichabods are coached by a former Jayhawks player, Brett Ballard, who also spent time on Self's coaching staff at KU in the past.

Bill Self believes an opportunity like the 2027 Hall of Fame Series in Las Vegas is “hard to pass up.”

After missing the Arkansas exhibition game due to injury, Rylan Griffen was scheduled to play for Kansas against Washburn tonight. He recently snuck into the game and hit a three-pointer on his first shot of the game. So that's a positive sign for his status as the regular season approaches, as he's someone the Jayhawks will likely rely on heavily as the season progresses.

David Coit did a lot of good things for the Jayhawks early on. Not only was he confident with his shots on offense, going 2-for-3 from behind the arc to score six points, but he also brings energy on defense. Coit, who started the matchup, takes advantage of this opportunity early.

Flory Bidunga was also aggressive on defense for Kansas. He has a pair of early blocks. This rim protection will serve the Jayhawks well this season.

Kansas is coming off a 23-11 season in which it reached the Round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament before being eliminated. The Jayhawks had to deal with injury issues, especially late in the season, which further highlighted the fact that they simply didn't have enough depth at their disposal. The coaching staff has hit the transfer portal hard to address these concerns, and expectations are high again this season.
