Justin Jefferson outperforms another Vikings star

Although the Minnesota Vikings lost to the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday night, wide receiver Justin Jefferson continues to make his way through the team's record books.

With his eight-catch, 115-yard performance on Thursday night, Jefferson moved into fifth place on the team's all-time yards list. He now has 6,545 career yards, passing Jake Reed for fifth place.

In his Vikings career, Reed caught 413 passes for 6,433 yards. He did that in 134 career games in purple. Last night was game #67 for Jefferson as a member of the Vikings, meaning he matched and exceeded Reed's yardage in exactly half of the games. Yes, it's a different era now than it was back then, but that's still pretty impressive.

Next on the list for Jefferson is his former teammate Adam Thielen. Thielen had 6,682 career yards as a Viking, meaning Jefferson needs 138 more yards to pass Thielen for fourth place.

It's not out of the question for Jefferson to finish in the top three this season either.

That spot currently belongs to Anthony Carter with 7,636 career yards, which currently puts him 1,091 yards ahead of Jefferson. Considering Jefferson is averaging a career NFL record of 97.7 yards/game, he could very well be able to reach that if he stays healthy all season, and he certainly will achieve in 2025. Had he not missed almost half of last season because of his hamstring problem, he probably would have passed that mark by now.

It will be more difficult to finish in the top two as those spots are occupied by Cris Carter (12,383 yards) and Randy Moss (9,316 yards).

But the fact that Jefferson, in the midst of his fifth NFL season, is already one of the top five receivers in Minnesota Vikings history in terms of yardage is pretty staggering.
