Josh Hart has “no idea” about his role as the Knicks’ regular season approaches

WASHINGTON – Josh Hart finally scored a goal in the preseason, but it was only two points on two shots and that wasn't enough to make him feel comfortable in his new role.

He even considered a possible move to the bench after Friday's 118-117 loss to the Wizards in the preseason.

“I am lost. I have no idea,” Hart said. “It's still a few days until Boston. Whether we're trying to find a rhythm with this starting unit or we're giving someone else a look and my role changes and I come off the bench and join this unit. I'm trying to figure it out right now, but I have next to no idea. But we’ll see what happens in Boston (in Tuesday’s season opener).”

It should be noted that Hart made similar comments at the start of last season – specifically, that he couldn't find a rhythm because he never touched the ball – and subsequently found his groove.

But this season he's in a different position, in a lineup with two offensive-minded All-Stars – Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns – and another high-volume shooter in Mikal Bridges.

“(Brunson) and (Cities) are our engine. I feel like we played pretty well this preseason,” Hart said after the Knicks finished the preseason 4-1. “So I’m okay with that. I just think we can just find a way to be our best selves or whatever. Role or protocol or whatever it is.”

The second unit, as built in preseason, is led by Miles McBride and Precious Achiuwa (who suffered an injury on Friday).

Hart took just six shots in 90 preseason minutes, scoring two points.

After the first preseason game in early October, Hart spoke about the importance of making sacrifices.

He repeated it again on Friday, but with the twist that it might be better served in a different role.

Achiuwa was escorted to the locker room by a trainer in the fourth quarter on Friday and never returned to the bench.

The frontcourt reserve, one of the Knicks' best players in the preseason, appeared to strain his Achilles tendon after a dunk attempt. He was immediately replaced.

After standing in the middle of his good friend and father's argument on national television, Brunson blamed both parties for poor decisions.

“I just wanted to address the dispute between families. Things were said. “It should have been handled better on both sides, but here we are,” Brunson said on his “Roommates Show” podcast. “Everyone thinks the world is collapsing. Everyone thinks. …It is what it is at this point. But I just feel like it should have been handled a lot better.”

During Sunday's preseason game between the Timberwolves and the Knicks, Donte DiVincenzo, best man at Brunson's wedding, began chirping from the Knicks' bench, including a few snarky comments to Rick Brunson, a Knicks assistant and also Jalen's father.

A post-game altercation broke out and DiVincenzo and Rick were separated on the MSG court.

Still, several sources said the sides smoothed over the situation in the following days and were in a good place.
