JJ Watt addresses retirement rumors following Detroit Lions News

Former Houston Texans superstar JJ Watt has been repeatedly urged to come out of retirement and return to the starting lineup. For the most part, it was the Texas fans who expressed these wishes. The former Texans and Arizona Cardinals star defender has proven on social media that he remains in impeccable shape.

However, Houston has two star defensive ends – Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter. In fact, Anderson, the reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year, recorded three sacks in a big win over the New England Patriots on Sunday.

So Watt isn't necessarily needed in Houston, even though he has claimed he would return if the team needed him. Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans also shared such information, albeit in jest.

Recently, Detroit Lions' rising superstar defensive end Aidan Hutchinson suffered a serious lower leg injury and required immediate surgery in the game against the Dallas Cowboys. The Lions are one of the best teams in the NFC with a perfect 7-0 record. Therefore, they will look for ways to improve the defensive end position while Hutchinson rehabs and gets healthy.

Lions fans have reached out to Watt asking him to come out of retirement to help their favorite club and ensure they don't miss out on anything in this regard. Watt also left in the best phase of his game. He didn't let his age slow him down.

On Monday, Watt addressed those fans, claiming he is not coming out of retirement and is happy with the current phase of life he is in.

Lions fans, I see, hear and appreciate you. I love your team, love Detroit and love Hutch. Disappointed for him,” Watt wrote on social media. “This morning I poured myself a cup of coffee and took a walk by the lake with my wife and son before breakfast. I'm really enjoying this phase of my life.”

The Lions will not retain the services of Watt, who is clearly enjoying his time as a retired father.
