New York Jets offensive lineman Xavier Newman was stretchered off the field at Acrisure Stadium after suffering a neck injury during the team's “Sunday Night Football” game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. According to the NBC broadcast, he was taken to the University of Pittsburgh Hospital and is currently able to move his limbs.

The 25-year-old Newman appeared to overcome the injury with 7:29 left in the third quarter when Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen made a lead block on an interception return. Newman stumbled out of bounds before hitting the back of his head on the turf. The lineman remained on the field for some time before being taken away on a stretcher.

The Jets were already starting at right guard after Alijah Vera-Tucker suffered an ankle injury early in the game and did not return. Newman was his replacement in the meantime until his injury and was replaced by Jake Hanson. The Jets have just one other backup offensive lineman — rookie tackle Olu Fashanu — on the active roster.

This is Newman's first full season with the Jets. He entered Sunday having played six games.
