For the first time since 1996, the Washington Commanders have won seven of their first nine games. They accomplished this feat on Sunday thanks to a 27-22 road win over the New York Giants.

Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, an MVP candidate at the time, completed 15 of 22 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns (both to wide receiver Terry McLaurin). He also ran eight times for 35 yards.

This season, Daniels has completed 71.49 percent of his passes for 1,944 yards, nine touchdowns and just two interceptions. He also passed for 459 yards and four scores.

On Sunday, Daniels hit McLaurin for a one-yard touchdown in the first quarter to open the scoring:

The Giants and Commanders then traded touchdowns, with Big Blue quarterback Daniel Jones hitting Chris Manhertz for six before Washington running back Austin Ekeler pushed into the end zone.

With 20 seconds left in the first half, Daniels hit Dyami Brown for 24 yards on 3rd-and-18, bringing the ball to the Giants' 18-yard line. One play later, Daniels found McLaurin for 18 yards and the Commanders took a 21-7 halftime lead.

At halftime, Giants quarterback Daniel Jones had no passing yards, but Big Blue outscored Washington on the ground, 142-68. That wasn't good enough against Daniels, who made great plays throughout the half and took a two-point lead.

The Giants fought back in the second half, Jones rushing for a two-yard score before later hitting rookie Theo Johnson for a 35-yard touchdown throw. New York missed converting two points after both touchdowns, making it 27-22 for Washington with 2:48 left.

However, the Commanders ran out of time thanks to Daniels, who found Olamide Zaccheaus for a 42-yard pass that helped them extend the game-winning drive.

And so the Commanders now have seven wins, three more than the team had all of last year. Daniels has the biggest part in this resurgence, but the commanders are currently firing on all cylinders. They also appear to be a team of destiny, especially after Daniels' Hail Mary pass to Noah Brown secured an 18-15 victory over the Chicago Bears last Sunday.

Washington has eight games left, but this team is on fire right now. Fans and analysts are undoubtedly impressed with Daniels and the Commanders, with the quarterback even being considered for MVP.

As a rookie, Jayden Daniels is undoubtedly one of the best players in the NFL

Washington is 7-2 in a regular season for the first time since 1996 #Commanders could lose four of their last eight games and still post their first 11-win regular season since 1991. We've waited decades for a season like this.

If the season ended today @NFL would have no choice but to do it @Commanders Head coach Dan Quinn is the coach of the year. He transformed a last-place team into a potential threat to the NFC conference in one season, players asked to be traded there, and he won over his team.

Daniels and the Commanders now return home to take on the 6-2 Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
