“So far, I have dealt with this privately, sought treatment and taken care of my overall health more intensively than ever before,” he continued. “I'm fine and feeling strong. It was quite a start and I’ll tell you more when I’m ready.”

He then apologized to the people in his life that he wanted to tell in person.

“I apologize to all the people in my life that I actually wanted to tell. In my preferred time frame, nothing has happened in this process… But we go along with it, taking every surprise as a signpost pointing us toward a greater destiny than ourselves.” “I would have discovered it without divine intervention,” he said.

Van Der Beek and his family “deeply appreciate all the love and support,” he said, adding that “there will be more.”

Van Der Beek has been married to Kimberly Van Der Beek since 2010. They have six children together: Olivia, Joshua, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn and Jeremiah.

For Halloween, James Van Der Beek posted a series of photos from Texas showing the family fully dressed in costumes for the holiday.

“Growing up, I made all of my own costumes. I didn't really have a choice. But I loved it. “Probably should have been the first warning sign to my parents that I was going to be an actor when I grew up,” he captioned the Nov. 1 post.

James Van Der Beek wrote that his daughter was “devastated” when she realized her angel costume wouldn't arrive in time for trick-or-treating, so she followed her father and made her own halo.
