LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The vision to build the Tropicana Las Vegas took shape 77 years ago, but it would be another 10 years before the hotel-casino celebrated its grand opening in 1957. The Trop, as it is often called, has stood the test of time. But on October 9th, it will only take 22 seconds for the iconic hotel to crumble into dust and rubble.

Bally's Corporation released more information about the upcoming implosion on Monday, including that there will be no public viewing areas due to safety restrictions, but there will be a live broadcast. Bally's and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority will both provide live streams.

Additionally, KLAS-TV will broadcast a live broadcast of “Drop the Trop” online at 8newsnow.com and on Channel 8 starting at 2 a.m. Numerous camera teams will capture the event from all angles.

The implosion show will feature 555 drones and fireworks that will light up the sky before both towers implode.

“This moment in Las Vegas history represents more than just the next chapter – it is the evolution of the Strip, where legend meets innovation to create something truly unforgettable,” said Soo Kim, chairman of Bally's Corporation.

GGG Demolition will manage the implosion in coordination with Controlled Demolition, Inc. (CDI). In total, 917,400 square feet of space is imploded through the use of nearly 2,200 pounds of explosives. The demolition sequence begins with the implosion of the 23-story Paradise Tower and ends with the implosion of the 23-story Club Tower. According to the press release from Bally's Corporation, both buildings are expected to collapse within 22 seconds of pressing the implosion button.

The implosion of older hotels and casinos became a tradition in Las Vegas in the 1990s as mega-resorts competed for space on the Strip. CDI is no stranger to implosions. The company has demolished 35 buildings in Clark County since 1993, including Landmark, Dunes, Frontier, Hacienda, Stardust and Riveria.

Demolition of the Tropicana will create the space needed for the site to become the new home of the A's baseball stadium.
