Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love missed two starts early in the NFL season after suffering a knee injury in Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

He's at risk of missing another contest against the Detroit Lions in Week 9.

Love left Green Bay's 30-27 Week 8 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the third quarter after suffering a groin injury. He didn't return and that put his status for the Packers' Week 9 showdown with the Lions in question.

Love's status for Week 9 is complicated by the fact that the Packers have a bye in Week 10. Will Green Bay let him play through the injury and then give him a week of rest, or will they play it safe and let him sit out until then? is he completely healthy?

Here's what you should know about Love's injury and his status for Green Bay's matchup against the Lions.

Jordan Love injury update

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Love is expected to play against the Lions in Week 9.

Love did not participate in practice in Green Bay on Wednesday but returned to the field on Thursday. He was seen in practices but was listed as “limited” on the Packers' official injury report.

Love saw action again in practice on Friday and earned another limited award. That earned him the “questionable” designation for Sunday’s NFC North matchup.

Packers coach Matt LaFleur indicated Love was making progress after Wednesday's practice.

“He’s moving better,” LaFleur said, according to ESPN. “We’ll see, but we’ll get there eventually. Of course we will push the limits with this. I know he wants to play, but we'll see where he stands at the end of the week.”

But on Friday, LaFleur acknowledged that the team's decision on Love would likely come at the last minute.

“We’re giving him time to play to see how he feels,” LaFleur said.

It's worth noting that the last time Love missed a game in Week 3, he was able to practice on a limited basis in all three of the Packers' meetings. Green Bay decided to play it safe with him at that point, and the Packers appear to be taking a similar approach this time around with a bye looming in Week 10.

But Love hopes the upcoming bye week won't influence LaFleur's decision.

“I would definitely try to come back as soon as possible, even if the bye was next week,” Love told reporters.

Jordan Love status for Week 9 vs. Lions

Love appears to believe he could have a chance to play in Week 9, as he told reporters after practice on Wednesday.

“I think it’s realistic,” Love said when asked about playing against the Lions.

Love even hinted that he may not need to practice to participate in Green Bay's Week 9 contest.

“Yes, obviously not training during the week is not the ideal format to try and play a game,” he said. “Like I said, things happen, if that’s the case I know I’ll be fine. But it’s definitely not the ideal scenario to start a big week.”

Love at least avoided that scenario by returning to practice on Thursday and Friday. Now his status will depend on whether LaFleur believes the quarterback can protect himself enough to start.
