After a slow start to the 2024/25 season, the Red Wings have found a rhythm, albeit a strange one, in recent games. The team has won each of its last three games despite losing all three times. After Alex Lyon stood on his head in a 1-0 win over the New York Islanders in which Detroit fell behind 30-11 shots, Cam Talbot stepped in and played well against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night, stopping 37 of them them the 40 shots he faced in the 5-3 win.

The Wings lost 40-20 to the Devils in Detroit, marking the sixth time this season that they lost the battle on goal. As the team continues to churn out wins, they must find a way to take control of the games as their previous path to victory will be untenable.

Thanks to a talented young core and some good goalies, the Sabers entered the new season with optimism. However, it has not translated into positive results. After losing twice to the Devils in the NHL Global Series in the Czech Republic earlier in the season, Buffalo was also mediocre in North America. They're on a roll Saturday with wins against the Chicago Blackhawks and Dallas Stars.

This will be the first of four meetings between the Atlantic Division opponents this season. Detroit won three of four matchups last year, including one in Western New York.
