How the Warriors made NBA history with a blistering two-game start originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

The Warriors are coming off a pair of stunning victories to open the 2024-25 NBA season, after a 140-104 win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday and an even more dominant 127-86 defeat of the Utah Jazz on Friday night.

These two triumphs add up to a margin of plus-77 through two games, easily surpassing the NBA record previously (ironically) set by the 2017-18 Blazers, who won their first two contests by 66 points.

Likewise, according to ESPN, the Warriors became the first NBA team to win its first two games by at least 35 points.

What's even more impressive is that both of those wins came in Golden State.

That's not the only fascinating statistic to emerge from the Warriors' impressive start.

The offseason newcomer Buddy Hield obviously couldn't be missed so far. With seven triples hit Friday, Hield already has 12 in his debut season with Golden State.

Not only is this a Warriors two-game franchise record, but it is also another NBA record for debut appearances by a player for a team.

Hield fought for some pretty solid company to top these leaderboards. As many might suspect, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson are the next entries on the Warriors franchise list.

In terms of NBA record through two games, Hield trails only the Charlotte Hornets' LaMelo Ball, who already made 13 3-pointers early Friday evening.

However, Hield's performance is particularly notable as he came off the bench in both attempts. With a total of 49 points through Friday, the 31-year-old sharpshooter set another franchise record (set in 1970-71) for points scored by nonstarters in two games to open the season.

Of course, this is far from the Warriors' most remarkable start to a season – remember when Golden State won 24 straight games to open the 2016-17 season?

Regardless, it's a good sign for the future of this team.
