Heidi Klum transformed into ET for Halloween

All hail the reigning queen of Halloween. In true Heidi Klum style, the supermodel and spooky season icon absolutely won the holiday this year with her latest creation. How, you may ask? It seems like an impossible task to follow up on history-making costumes like her version of Jessica Rabbit, last year's group peacock costume, and the unforgettable time she dressed up as Fiona Shrek movies, but she managed to outshine them all with a couples costume with her husband Tom Kaulitz from the 1982 film AND

Both Klum and Kaulitz were dressed as giant ETs. However, Klum wore a blonde wig, black scarf, red scarf and hat to recreate the iconic scene in the Steven Spielberg film when the alien disguises himself and asks to “call home.” The costumes were made using prosthetics and makeup to recreate the famous character's bug eyes, head shape and long, thin fingers.

Before the party, Klum gave fans a glimpse into her creation process during an Amazon Live concert. During the hour-long broadcast, Klum discussed her now-famous Halloween party, when her makeup artist began gluing prosthetics to her face that would eventually become ET's neck.

Every year, she keeps the concept so secret that only her makeup and glam team knows about it – not even her friends. “Of course there’s a big team involved because obviously I can’t do it alone,” she admitted. “But other than that, I don’t really tell anyone because I love the surprise of it all.”

Klum added that she gives it her all every year because she hopes to “inspire” others. “I always try to surprise people. “I want to excite, surprise and, above all, inspire people,” she said. “Halloween is all about the arts and transforming yourself into something you're not normally. So I hope to inspire people with their costumes so everyone can have fun and be creative on this day.”

Klum has also passed on her Halloween obsession to her children. During the live, she shared that her 15-year-old daughter Lou is very excited about the holidays. “She makes a lot of her costumes herself, for example she can make wigs, she makes props, so she's very enthusiastic about it. She doesn’t just go into a store and buy something.”

Earlier this month, he teased the costume with an Instagram post ahead of its Oct. 31 debut, according to NBC.

“This is going to be the craziest thing yet,” she said in a reel in which she can be seen putting on makeup. “I mean, this makes me so happy, you don’t even know it! Look at that thing! I love it! I could shed a little tear right now! This is amazing!” She went on to say that even the most die-hard Halloween fans wouldn’t be able to guess what she had planned.

Klum knows how much anticipation there is for her annual costume. She explained that she definitely feels pressure to get bigger and bigger every year.

“You know, I'm pretty competitive with myself and the things I've done in the past,” she said in 2023 as she prepared for the peacock costume. “I don’t want to let my Halloween fans down either.”

Despite having all her experience, she adds that it's all about the wire and that no one knows whether the costume is a success or a dud until she grabs the flash.

“It either works or it doesn’t work,” she said. “That’s always the thing. And always fingers, toes, everything crossed that it works.”
