First-year New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo completely wrecked his own club after Sunday's 32-16 loss to Jacksonville in London, the Pats' sixth straight loss.

“Look, this is a disappointing game,” Mayo said in the team’s official transcript. “We came out and started fast. What I would say is, look, we're a soft football team across the board. They talk about what makes a tough football team. That's the ability to run the ball, that's the ability. “To stop the run, we couldn't block any of them today. Their running game averaged over four and a half yards per carry, I'm not sure what the average was but it wasn't good. I mean, we can't sit here and sulk.

New England scored on its first two possessions and led 10-0 before things fell apart. The Jaguars scored 25 straight points and 32 of the final 38 points in the game.

The Patriots ran 15 times for a total of 38 yards. If quarterback Drake Maye knocks out the three runs for 18 yards, the result for Mayo's club looks even worse – 12 runs for 20 yards, an average of 1.6 yards per carry. Meanwhile, the Jags galloped on 39 carries for 171 rushing yards without starting running back Travis Etienne.

The lack of penetration in the trenches on both sides of the ball is a glaring problem for Mayo's side. We knew the offense would struggle with a leaky O-line, but the defensive issues in 2024 were more depressing for the first-year coach.
