Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love on the game against the Detroit Lions: “I think it's realistic”

2 minutes, 14 seconds Read

The Detroit Lions (6:1) were back on the road for two more weeks after a commanding 52:14 victory over the Tennessee Titans, with which the Lions achieved their second-highest point total in franchise history.

Detroit will face the division rival Green Bay Packers (6-2), who enter Sunday's game with a four-game winning streak. The winner of Sunday's game will take first place in the NFC North in Week 10.

Packers report: The Packers are the winners of their last four games entering Sunday, three of which were decided by wins over the Rams, Texans and Jaguars by three points or less.

Last time out, Green Bay escaped Jacksonville with a 30-27 win in which Josh Jacobs scored two touchdowns on 25 carries for 127 yards. Quarterback Jordan Love, who left Sunday's game with a groin injury, finished the game with 196 passing yards on 14 completions, while backup quarterback Malik Willis led the final drive and set up a short, game-winning field goal in the final seconds. Love said earlier this week that it was “realistic” for him to play on Sunday, but Willis is ready to start if Love can't go.

Unlike the Titans, who recorded the fewest takeaways in the NFL, Green Bay has the highest number of takeaways at 19, four more than the next closest team. Packers safety Xavier McKinney leads the league with six interceptions, just ahead of Lions safety Kerby Joseph (5), and cornerback Jaire Alexander has two.

Offensively, the Packers average 27 points per game and rank in the top 10 in both passing and rushing attacks. Aside from a 16-10 win over the Colts in Week 2, the Packers have at least 24 points in all other contests achieved.

Last meeting: On Thanksgiving Day last season, the Green Bay Packers handed Detroit its seventh straight loss on the holiday, defeating the Lions 29-22. After two Love touchdown passes and a fumble recovery for the touchdown, the Packers took a 23-6 lead in the first half. A touchdown connection between Jared Goff and Sam LaPorta would be the only point of the first half for Detroit.

David Montgomery stormed into the end zone from six yards out to cut the lead to nine points midway through the third, but Love connected with Christian Watson to extend the lead, which remained too large despite a Josh Reynolds touchdown in the final minute of the game was to overcome him game.

1. Head coach Matt LaFleur has the second-highest winning percentage (.681) among active coaches with at least 50 games played.

2. The Packers lead the league by 62 points over their top 19 takeaways.

3. Jacobs has a league-high 531 rushing yards after contact and an average of 4.6 yards per carry.

Statistics are based on weeks 1-8, followed by rank.
