The Fox News Decision Desk predicted that incumbent Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz will defeat his Democratic opponent, Rep. Colin Allred, on Tuesday and win a third term in the U.S. Senate.

Cruz won his last reelection in 2018, defeating Democratic challenger Beto O'Rourke.

Cruz has represented the Lone Star State in the upper house of Congress since 2013.

Allred represents Texas' 32nd Congressional District in the House of Representatives.

Cruz is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School. He previously clerked for Chief Justice William Rehnquist and was Texas Attorney General. Cruz argued nine cases before the Supreme Court.

The Texas Democrat's Senate ad features a border wall he once called “racist.”

Cruz sits on four Senate committees – Foreign Relations, Justice, Rules and Commerce, Science and Transportation.

Cruz won his last Senate race in 2018 by about three points.

Allred, 40, a former NFL player, trailed Cruz slightly throughout the race, but experts expected it to be close.

In Texas, no Democrat has won statewide office in 30 years, the longest such losing streak in the United States

However, Allred had previously toppled a Republican incumbent – Rep. Pete Sessions in 2018.

During his campaign, Allred emphasized his heritage as the child of a single mother who earned a football scholarship to Baylor University, played in the NFL and worked for the Obama administration before being elected to Congress.

Allred made headlines in January when he was among 14 House Democrats who supported a Republican resolution in Congress criticizing President Biden's handling of the border.
