Polls are open today across Lee County from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. as voters cast ballots for the next President of the United States as well as several local and state elections.

To help you fill out your ballot in the 2024 election, The News-Press interviewed dozens of candidates about their qualifications and positions on issues for state and local races in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Bonita Springs, Fort Myers Beach and Lee County .

For the first time in decades, Lee voters will elect a superintendent; a surprise candidate who qualified for the Lee sheriff race in June and caused a stir with serious allegations; There are five seats on the ballot in the Florida House of Representatives, representing parts of Lee County. Lee voters will have a say in whether U.S. Congressman Byron Donalds stays in office or elects his Democratic opponent, Kari Lerner.

Voters are saying “yes” or “no” to six proposed Florida constitutional amendments, including deciding whether school board elections should be partisan, whether recreational marijuana use should be allowed in Florida and whether Florida residents should have a constitutional right to abortion.

Voting on Election Day in Lee County, Florida

Early voting ended Saturday, November 2nd. There are two other ways to vote: cast your ballot by postal vote or vote in person in your assigned voting district.

What ID you should bring with you to vote on Election Day 2024

Florida Statute 101.043 requires voters to present one of the following current (unexpired) and valid photo IDs before voting:

  • Florida ID card (issued by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles)
  • Florida driver's license
  • United States passport
  • Debit or credit card
  • Military identification
  • Student ID card
  • Identification of the retirement home
  • Identification of public assistance
  • Identification of the neighborhood association
  • Veteran's health card (issued by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs)
  • Florida Concealed Weapon or Firearm License (issued pursuant to Florida Statute 790.06)
  • Identification of government employees

If your photo ID does not contain your signature, an additional ID with your signature is required:

  • Any form of signature identification is acceptable.
  • The signature identification does not have to be current.

You can submit your mail-in ballot until 7 p.m. today

Can you still register to vote?

It's too late to register for today's election. Only voters who have registered by October 7, 2024 are eligible to vote. Check your voter registration status here: https://registration.elections.myflorida.com/CheckVoterStatus

By Monday evening, 327,392 people had cast their votes, which corresponds to a voter turnout of 66.76% of those eligible to vote.
