Former Jets coach Robert Saleh supports the Packers on offense

LaFleur emphasized that Saleh will not be included in new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley's unit, even though he serves primarily as a defensive coach.

“I don’t want to do that,” LaFleur said. “I think Haf and our defensive team have a great thing going on right now. And I trust them completely. It’s Year 1, he has to kind of go through it himself.”

Saleh was introduced during the team meeting on Wednesday morning. As LaFleur's college roommate, he stays in the LaFleur household during his stay in town and returns to his family on Friday.

According to LaFleur, who reached out after Saleh's release by the Jets to let his good friend know that he can commit to the team without pressure if he wants, it's a “fluid” situation as to how much he'll help the team around to do this.

“I think it just shows how much he loves the game of football,” LaFleur said of his desire to stop by. “Of course it’s hard when something is taken away from you.”

Quarterback Jordan Love has no experience with Saleh other than chatting with him when the Packers and Jets held joint workouts in Green Bay a few summers ago, but he's excited to see what he could add to the mix.

“It helps to have a defensive mind that talks about offense and helps us with things that he might be able to see, similar scheme stuff, things that the defense might be looking for,” Love said.

LaFleur added: “He has a top-notch defensive mind. But that’s why I want him on the offensive side so he can help us attack the defense.”
