Polls in Illinois are officially closed. The electoral vote total includes the presidential election, the state House of Representatives and Senate, as well as statewide referendums and the first-ever school board election in Chicago.

How did Illinois residents vote across race? Once votes are counted, results will appear on NBC Chicago's live election results page on the website and app. Keep the link handy as results continue to come back to the site throughout election night.

Illinois voters were also all presented with a series of advisory questions. These questions, which Illinois voters saw for the first time in a decade, covered a wide range of issues, including election security, property tax relief and reproductive health care.

What about ballots cast before Election Day? According to the Chicago Board of Elections, all early and mail-in ballots received by Sunday will be cast and processed for counting before polls close in Illinois.

Even though the ballots have been scanned, the results are kept secret until the polls close, and no employee can view the vote count until 7 p.m., according to the Chicago Board of Elections.

Once that process is complete, the results will be released along with the first counting of ballots on Election Day, according to officials.
