After Vice President Kamala Harris' surprise appearance on “Saturday Night Live,” senior Republican commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission Brendan Carr claimed that her appearance violated the Equal Time Rule.

Carr posted about candidate influence on the eve of an election.”

The FCC's Equal Time Rule is a set of rules designed to “ensure that no legally qualified candidate for office is unfairly granted less access to the airwaves – except for bona fide news exceptions – than his opponent.” “

The commissioner alleged that NBC “structured this appearance in a manner that evaded these requirements.”

SNL founder Lorne Michaels previously said in an interview that he would not contact either presidential candidate because “you can't bring the actual candidates because of the election laws and the equality provisions,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Harris appeared during the cold open on SNL, playing herself opposite her impersonator Maya Rudolph. She delivered the iconic song “Live from New York it's Saturday Night” and urged voters to vote for her on November 5th.
