Experts say these US cities are at the lowest risk of climate disasters

Located in northern Michigan, south of the Canadian border, Detroit is known for its automotive industry and thriving music scene. Here only 8.9 percent of all newly listed houses were at risk of flooding. The Detroit River flows into Lake St. Clair, a beautiful setting for a family vacation or a long weekend on the waterfront.

Cleveland, Ohio

5.0% of all new registrations in August were at risk of flooding.

Cleveland, Ohio is located on the southern shore of Lake Erie. Most of the city is between 600 and 800 feet above sea level and temperatures in lakes are less unpredictable than in the ocean, meaning only five percent of listings have a flood warning. Cleveland is a great city for sports and music fans alike, as it is home to the Cleveland Cavaliers and Browns, as well as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Indianapolis, Indiana

7.3% of all new registrations in August were at risk of flooding.

Indianapolis, better known as Indy, is the capital and most populous metropolitan area in Indiana. Here only seven percent of homes are at risk of flooding, and these homes are typically located on the riverbank.

Kansas City, Kansas

2.1% of all new registrations in August were at risk of fire and 6.5% were at risk of flooding 0.8% were at extreme heat risk.

Although Kansas City is located between Missouri and Kansas, Zillow's research has shown that Kansas City is one of the cities least affected by climate disasters. Here only two percent of the newly advertised houses were at risk of fire, 6.5 percent were at risk of flooding and less than one percent of the newly advertised houses were at risk of extreme heat. Columbus, Ohio

0.2% of all new registrations in August were at risk of fire and 5.0% were at risk of flooding.

Columbus, the state capital of Ohio, is located on the Scioto River. Here, less than one percent of the newly listed houses had an increased risk of fire and only five percent had a risk of flooding. Columbus has a rich arts scene and is home to a number of nationally recognized museums such as the Columbus Museum of Art and the Center of Science and Industry.
