FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Fresno State's lead evaporated in the fourth quarter and lost to Washington State 25-17 in front of a sold-out stadium of more than 41,000 fans.

The Bulldogs are 3-3 on the season.

Leading 17-16 in the fourth quarter, Fresno State junior quarterback Mikey Keene threw his second interception of the game, and Wazzu's Ethan O'Connor returned the ball 60 yards for what turned out to be a game-winning touchdown.

“It’s about playing smart,” said interim coach Tim Skipper after the defeat. “Limit the ball losses. Limit the penalties. These things are killing us. It’s like we’ve been emotionally kidnapped.”

It was the fourth multi-interception game of the season for Keene, who finished the night throwing for 220 yards and a touchdown. He was unavailable to speak to the media after the loss.

“We're now in what I call the 'conference playoffs,'” Skipper said. “One game at a time…we’ll be fine, we just have to get back to work.”

Elijah Gilliam carried the ball 20 times for 120 yards and a touchdown. It was the first time in his career that the Merceder native exceeded the hundred-hundred mark.

Raylen Sharpe had 6 catches for 60 yards and Mac Dalena had 4 catches for 61 yards.

It's a short week for FS, who travel to Reno to face Nevada (3-4) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Wolf Pack is coming off a 42-37 win over Oregon State.
