    Elon Musk's SpaceX conducts fifth Starship launch

    SpaceX's Starship had its fifth test launch in 18 months on Sunday morning, successfully capturing a component of the rocket with mechanical arms near the launch site in Texas, multiple outlets reported, marking a major milestone for Elon Musk's aerospace company.

    Important facts

    The Starship and its Super Heavy launch vehicle took off near Brownsville, Texas, around 8:25 a.m. EDT, the New York Times reported, and the Super Heavy returned shortly after 8:30 a.m. while in mid-air from the Both mechanical weapons were captured after the ship was launched.

    According to SpaceX, the spacecraft successfully landed in the Indian Ocean about an hour later, just after 9:30 a.m. EDT.

    SpaceX said in a post on the Musk-owned Indian Ocean” with the broader goal of “revolutionizing humanity’s access to space.”

    SpaceX's most recent launch took place in June and marked the company's spacecraft's first successful re-entry into the atmosphere after three previous attempts.

    12,000. That's how many hours SpaceX engineers have worked since the last flight in June to renew the ship's heat shield with more protective measures after some of the protective tiles were destroyed during the return on the last launch, the BBC reported.
