New York:

Elon Musk, the Tesla owner, showed up at Donald Trump's rally at Madison Square Garden on Monday wearing a strange hat.

The official “Make America Great Again” or “MAGA” cap is red with the text in white. However, the one Musk wore was black and the text was embroidered in an irregular font typically associated with heavy metal bands and newspapers.

“I’m a dark goth MAGA,” Musk said.

However, the internet read it differently. The font on Musk's hat looks suspiciously similar to the font used for Nazi typography, or “blackletter.”

According to a report in FastCompany Magazine, Cheryl Jacobsen, associate professor of scripture at the University of Iowa, said that blackletter was used as a vernacular style for the Bible in Germany. Regardless, during the rise of Adolf Hitler, the Nazi Party re-adopted the font as a sign of their nationalism. It is also featured on the cover of Hitler's autobiography Mein Kampf.

The baptismal font, now a relic of the past, fell into disuse after the Nazis abandoned it due to unfounded rumors about its Jewish origins.

Internet experts have a lot to say about this. One user on While another commented: “This is a bit too far fetched. It is literally the Old English font. You can’t cross-reference the serifs.”

According to the NYT, John Kelly, former President Trump's longest-serving chief of staff, made a striking statement claiming that Donald Trump embodies the definition of a fascist. He said: “The former president is definitely on the far right, he is definitely an authoritarian, admires people who are dictators – that's what he said. So he certainly falls into the general definition of fascist.”

However, MAGA leader Trump said on Monday: “The latest statement from Kamala and her campaign is that anyone who doesn't vote for her is a Nazi,” he told the crowd. “I am not a Nazi. I’m the opposite of a Nazi.”
