Elon Musk's super PAC is continuing its daily giveaways worth millions after the Justice Department reportedly warned him that it could violate federal election law.

According to Federal Election Commission filings, Musk donated more than $118 million to the America PAC, which supports former President Donald Trump. On Saturday, Musk announced he would donate $1 million a day to a registered voter who signs an online petition supporting the Constitution.

The move raised legal questions, sparked criticism from Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz and prompted former Republican officials to urge Attorney General Merrick Garland to investigate.

Multiple media outlets reported Wednesday that the Justice Department's Election Crimes Unit sent a warning letter to America PAC's attorney saying it is against the law to offer anything of value to influence votes.

No winner was announced Wednesday, but on Thursday evening the America PAC announced two winners, one from Michigan and one from Wisconsin, as the initiative appears to be gaining momentum.

Musk, the world's richest man, is one of the few billionaires to donate tens of millions of dollars to Trump's campaign.

Musk has become a growing ally of Trump since supporting him after Trump survived his first assassination attempt. Musk is amplifying Trump's messages on his social media platform X, promoting Trump in swing states and now trying to mobilize the base with cash payments. Trump has promised Musk a leadership role in his government if he wins the election.

Faced with questions about whether the giveaway initiative is legal or not, Musk has reached out to X to defend himself.
