Election 2024 in the Caldwells: Who's on the ballot?

CALDWELLS, NJ – Residents of Caldwell, North Caldwell and West Caldwell will go to the polls this week to participate in the 2024 general election. In addition to the high-profile duel between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, numerous local candidates will appear on the ballot.

On Election Day, which takes place on Tuesday, November 5, polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Find your local polling station here.

The Essex County Clerk's Office has released sample ballots for the election. A sample ballot for Caldwell can be found here, for North Caldwell here and for West Caldwell here.

CALDWELL BOROUGH COUNCIL – Four candidates are on the ballot for two open seats on the Caldwell Borough Council. Barbara Zigglear Buechner and Dana Hunkele (Republican) are running against Evelyn Seijido Loesser and Steve Zisk (Democrat). See related: Caldwell City Council race heats up; Meet the candidates

WEST CALDWELL TOWN GOVERNMENT – Two Republican candidates are running unopposed for two open seats on the West Caldwell Township Council: Michael Crudele and Robert Schott.

CALDWELL-WEST CALDWELL SCHOOL BOARD – Two candidates are running unopposed for two open seats on the Caldwell-West Caldwell Board of Education: Julianne Grosso and Christopher D'Ambola. The district serves residents of Caldwell and West Caldwell.

NORTH CALDWELL BOROUGH COUNCIL – Two candidates are running unopposed for two open seats on the North Caldwell Borough Council: Johanna Stroever (Democrat) and Kenneth Tilton (Republican).

NORTH CALDWELL SCHOOL BOARD – Three candidates are running for two open seats on the North Caldwell Board of Education: Matthew Whitford, Michael DiGirolomo and Scott Methven.

WEST ESSEX REGIONAL SCHOOL BOARD – Two candidates are running for an open seat in the West Essex Regional School District: Joseph Sabol and Maryadele Wojtowicz. A single candidate is running unopposed for an unexpired term on the board: Alicia Amil. The school district includes the communities of Essex Fells, Fairfield, North Caldwell and Roseland.

Here are some other races Caldwell voters should cast their ballots for:

US SENATOR – Candidates for a U.S. Senate seat who will appear on the ballot include Andy Kim (Democrat), Curtis Bashaw (Republican), Kenneth R. Kaplan (Libertarian), Joanne Kuniansky (Socialist Workers Party), Christina Khalil ( Green Party) and Patricia G. Mooneyham (Independent).

US HOUSE (10TH DISTRICT) – Voters in the 10th Congressional District, including Caldwell, will vote for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Candidates on the ballot include LaMonica McIver (Democrat), Carmen Bucco (Republican), Jon Carlos Serrano (Green Party), and independent candidates Cynthia A. Johnson, Michelle Middleton and Donna Weiss.

US HOUSE (11TH DISTRICT) – Voters living in the 11th Congressional District, including North Caldwell and West Caldwell, will vote for a separate seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Candidates on the ballot include Mikie Sherrill (Democrat), Joseph Belnome (Republican), Lily Benavides (Green Party) and Joshua Lanzara (Independent).

ESSEX COUNTY SHERIFF – Voters in the Caldwells can cast their ballots in the race for Essex County sheriff. The candidates on the ballot are Amir Jones (Democrat) and Nicholas Pansini (Republican).

ESSEX COUNTY REGISTER – Voters in the Caldwells can cast their ballots in the Essex County Register race. The candidates on the ballot are Juann M. Rivera Jr. (Democrat) and Jeffrey M. Polewka (Republican).

VOTING IN ESSEX COUNTY: RESOURCES

There are three ways to vote in the 2024 general election in New Jersey. According to the clerk's office, the following options are available to Essex County residents:

Vote by postal vote – The last day to apply for an absentee ballot by mail is October 29th. Applications can be downloaded Here. If you use the U.S. Postal Service, the ballot must be postmarked on or before November 5th and received by the Board of Elections by November 11th to be considered valid and counted. If you use one of the county's “secure drop boxes,” the deadline to have your ballot delivered is November 5 at 8:00 p.m. (see list of locations in Essex County). Here). If you are casting your ballot in person, you may return your completed ballot to the Board of Elections office at 495 Dr. by November 5th at 8:00 p.m. Martin Luther King Drive in Newark (Dr. Martin Luther King Justice Building, room 145). Early Voting – Early in-person voting for the 2024 general election took place from October 26 to November 3. Voting times were Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. View a list of early voting locations in Essex County Here.

Election Day – On Election Day, which is Tuesday, November 5, polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Find your local polling place Here.
