Dylan Guenther scores the OT winner as the Utah Hockey Club improves to 2-0

ELMONT, N.Y. — Utah Hockey Club coach Andre Tourigny wants people to stop talking about Dylan Guenther's shot.

Or at least stop talking about it only his shot.

“People see him as just a goalscorer, and he is much more than that,” Tourigny said. “He handles the puck well, he defends well, he works hard, he's a good predictor, he has a great stick, he's good at the PK, he can do a lot more than just shoot.”

That may all be true, coach, but with all due respect, until Günther stops snitching, it will be difficult to look at anything else.

His latest? Oh, just your occasional overtime winner.

Guenther's quick wrist strike 2:18 minutes into overtime gave Utah a 5-4 victory over the New York Islanders at UBS Arena on Thursday, giving the new franchise its first ever road win.

It's only been two games, but this much is clear: the new kids in Utah certainly have a flair for the dramatic.

And yes, we mean children.

Before the game, Tourginy said he would turn to his veterans to help the team avoid a lull after Tuesday's emotional opening game. It turned out that it was the young talent that brought Utah home.

New York's Jean-Gabriel Pageau appeared to have given the Islanders a goal, scoring a short-handed goal to give his team a 3-2 lead seven minutes into the third period.

However, Utah responded immediately. On the same power play, Clayton Keller beat Günther – who else? – for a one-timer to even the score.

Later, Josh Doan may have even surpassed that moment.

New York's Maxim Tsyplakov gave the Islanders the lead again with 2:07 left – a lead that lasted all of 13 seconds.

Utah had a quick odd-man rush and Kerfoot found Doan, who raced into the net. Doan managed to get the puck over the Islanders goalie's net after the late equalizer.

That set up Günther's heroics in extra time.

“If you get it, there’s a good chance the puck will go into the net,” Doan said of Guenther.

See, even his teammates can't stop talking about it.
