The New York Yankees avoided a win against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but were unable to force the series back to the opposite coast.

Los Angeles won the World Series with a 7-6 victory on Wednesday, losing 5-0 in the fifth inning after a disastrous defensive performance by New York.

Despite strong play from starter Gerrit Cole on the mound, the Yankees failed to continue building toward their 28th World Series title.

The Dodgers gave veteran righty Jack Flaherty the nod, but he was retired in the second inning when Dave Roberts switched between his bullpen again, which ultimately ended with star starter Walker Buehler closing out the game.
