The 2024 World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers likely didn't see NL MVP Shohei Ohtani's regular-season performance in the World Series as he struggled with a shoulder injury sustained in Game 2.

The Dodgers explained what was going on with Ohtani, announcing that he had successful arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn labrum in his left non-throwing shoulder.

The Dodgers added that Ohtani should be ready for spring training to prepare for the 2025 season.

Ohtani attempted to steal second base in Game 2, and he was thrown out in the bottom of the inning when New York Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres made the tag.

Ohtani didn't immediately appear when he was called, but immediately held him by the shoulder. Replays showed Ohtani putting his left hand in the dirt to support his slide, causing his shoulder to pop up.

After the game, manager Dave Roberts said Ohtani still had strength in his shoulder, but when the series returned to New York, the Japanese superstar was clearly feeling discomfort.

Ohtani's swing seemed off. And when he stepped on base, he held the collar of his jersey from the front with his left hand to minimize movement.

Ohtani achieved the first 50 home run and 50 steal season in MLB history, but he was unable to threaten the Yankees on the base paths, knowing his injury meant he had to play it safe when he reached base.

Ohtani had two hits in 19 at-bats and struck out once in each of the five games.

However, Ohtani's lack of production didn't matter. Freddie Freeman, the World Series MVP, hit home runs in four straight games, and the Dogers defeated the Yankees in five games.

Despite the pain, Ohtani jumped for joy with his teammates after the finale at Yankee Stadium and saluted the crowd at Dodger Stadium with a speech in English during the team parade last week.
