A Delta flight from Boston to Rome on Tuesday evening was canceled after the crew received “an indication of an engine problem,” the airline said in a statement.

“Delta teams are working to re-accommodate our customers and we apologize for the inconvenience and delays,” the statement said.

The Airbus A330-300 had 152 customers and crew members on board when it had to abort takeoff due to an unspecified engine problem. A brief ground stop was ordered so the plane could be moved, the Massachusetts Port Authority confirmed.

The flight was later canceled after the aircraft was taken in for inspection and the airline determined that additional maintenance was required.

According to flight tracking software FlightAware, the flight was scheduled to depart Boston Logan International Airport at 6:05 p.m. and arrive at Rome's Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport around 1:47 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time. However, due to the cancellation and delay, the flight left Boston just before 9 p.m. and arrived in Rome around 4:30 a.m

The Federal Aviation Administration said it was investigating the incident.

The cancellation of the Delta flight came just a day after a United Airlines flight from Boston to Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia was canceled due to an engine problem. According to the airline, the aircraft was a Boeing 737-800.
