“Deliberately and repeatedly”: Elon Musk defends Trump and accuses Democrats of “hoaxes” on Joe Rogan podcast.

Tech mogul Elon Musk made a surprise appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast where he accused the Democratic Party of hypocrisy and spreading misinformation. During the conversation, Musk also commented on the ongoing allegations against former President Donald Trump, dismissing them as a “hoax” and drawing comparisons to authoritarian tactics.
The podcast appearance came after both Trump and his vice president JD Vance appeared on Rogan's show last week. Musk, who has actively campaigned for Trump in Pennsylvania, reiterated his claim that “if Trump doesn't win, this will be the last real election.”
Musk on the power and focus of government
Musk spoke about what he saw as the government's dangerous approach to justice, referencing Lavrentiy Beria, Stalin's infamous secret police chief, who famously said, “Show me the man and I'll show you the crime.” He compared the tactics to the treatment of his company SpaceX, claiming that authorities had arbitrarily targeted it, and then found grounds for an investigation. “They decided SpaceX was the target,” Musk said. “They only found out about the crime after the fact.”
Rogan agreed, pointing out that Trump critics had accused him of wanting to weaponize the justice system if he were re-elected, but Musk argued that it was Democrats who had already done that. “They’re doing all the things they accused Trump of doing — openly,” Musk said. He claimed that while some political hyperbole is normal, Democrats have repeatedly “spread hoaxes” to undermine Trump.

“I mean the sheer volume of fake news that the Democratic Party spreads over and over again… When you consciously and concertedly spread fake news repeatedly, you think you have to wait a moment. “Oh, come on, this is going too far,” Musk said.
Musk and Rogan cited several specific examples, including Trump's comment about “good people” in reference to Charlottesville, which Musk said is often misinterpreted. He criticized former President Barack Obama for recently revisiting that narrative and suggested it was used as a tool to demonize Trump. “That’s a blatant lie,” Rogan remarked.
Musk also criticized a campaign ad from Vice President Kamala Harris that allegedly misinterpreted Trump's comments on border security as denying women's rights. Musk described the tactic of taking Trump's statements out of context, quoting a saying: “You don't even take a whole sentence… and then broadcast it in every ad, every speaking event, every media outlet.”
Concerns about censorship and freedom of expression
Tesla's CEO also expressed concern about what he sees as the left's increasing trend toward authoritarianism. He claimed that although he once held progressive values, he now feels that the Democratic Party has become oppressive, particularly when it comes to free speech.
According to Musk, efforts to silence opposition on certain issues reflect an intention to control public opinion. “When they try to suppress people's ability to communicate, they're only doing it because they want to do things that people don't expect them to do,” he said.
Musk also took aim at traditional media outlets, accusing them of exploiting “low-information voters” who may not be able to scrutinize political claims in depth due to time constraints. He argued that these voters are easily misled by selectively presented narratives. As an example, he cited MSNBC's comparison of Trump's MSG rally to a Nazi rally, even though, as Musk pointed out, the rally was attended by people of different backgrounds and religions.
“They are trying to call the rally at Madison Square Garden like a Nazi rally. I think there was literally an Israeli flag in the audience. I think a quarter of the speakers were Jewish. Like there were people of every race, color, creed, religion at this rally,” Musk said.
