Decisive win over the Packers proves the Lions are the best team in the NFL right now | Insider reporting

The Detroit Lions' 24-14 victory over the Green Bay Packers wasn't nearly as close as the final score suggested. For Frank Schwab and Jason Fitz, it showed that the Lions, not the Chiefs, are truly the best team in the NFL right now and have the offense and defense to take on any team in the league, in any conditions and in any style to play.

You are on your way to number one.

This is the best team in the NFC.

And since I'm someone who rates football teams every Monday, I guess the question is: Are they the best team in the NFL?

Regardless of what happens to the Chiefs tomorrow?

I, I mean, I, I hate doing that because context matters when they beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 72-0.

Yes, yes.

OK. Of course that would change minds.

But as I sit here now, Fitz, the team I just saw beat the Packers today is the best team in football and we'll see what happens tomorrow night.

But I expect to be number one in the power rankings in the future.

They, yes, they have the loss that the Chiefs don't have.

The Chiefs have the pedigree and all that, but they pass the eye test of this Lions team every week, just, hey, we could play however you want to play, we have the best offensive line in football.

We have a quarterback who seems to complete 90% of his passes every week.

Monro Saint Brown is simply amazing.

This defense is still playing well without Aidan Hutchinson.

They really only gave up three points in this game.

Yes, the Packers got a couple, uh, crappy scores, a field goal and then a touchdown, and it was too late.

But that was after the game was over, as the Lions came out early in the second half and just scored a touchdown.

You know what this is, it won't happen anymore.

So hats off to the Lions man.

For me, this is the best team in football at the moment. Frank, if you don't put the Lions at number one in your power rankings, you're a coward.

If everyone can't take a step back and admit that the Lions are the best team in the NFL, then we're just going to sit here and say, OK, Kansas City, Kansas City, Kansas City, and I'm not taking anything away from the Chiefs because they just win, even if it's ugly.

All the Chiefs do is win.

But for me and I've told you this before.

I love a team that is audible.

I have, I love a team like a choose your own adventure book where hey, um, turn to page 72, if you really want to move on, turn to page 84.

If you want to go left today, we learned that the Lions are truly an opponent. Choose your own, whatever the adventure, they will find a way to defeat you.

And I don't want to gloss over the fact that Jared Goff continues to play low-error, high-efficiency football at 18-22 in this game.

And if you do that as a quarterback, if you can trust this team, we'll go into today's action in detail.

If you can trust your quarterback not to lose you the game, you have a huge advantage.

So when we talk about the best teams and the best teams, of course that also applies to Kansas City and Mahomes.

But the difference is that I have a quarterback that's not going to lose me the game in an offense that's actually five or six different players that can beat you on any given Sunday while the defense plays well enough to to win a championship.

Right now, there's no reason other than the fear of heartbreak for Lions fans not to stand at the top of the mountain and say, “You know what, we're going to the damn Super Bowl because we're the best team in the NFC.” and it is clear.
