Dave Annable says Kevin Costner let him dye his hair for “Yellowstone.”

Dave Annable, who starred alongside him Dances with wolves actors on Yellowstonerecently said the Oscar winner told him to change his appearance to avoid unfavorable physical comparisons.

“I asked and here they said yes,” Annable told PEOPLE while discussing his current series lionesswhich allowed him to keep his naturally gray hair for his role. “I kept asking Yellowstoneand God bless Mr. (Kevin) Costner, he was like, 'No – you're going to dye it.' I don't want to look that old.' I thought, 'Oh, okay. Copy that. That makes sense.'”

In the spy drama, Annable plays Neal, the surgeon husband of Zoe Saldaña's protagonist Joe. “So yeah, (with) this one I think it works,” the actor said of his gray coif. “We can use it. It looks like a doctor.”

lioness is another action drama from Taylor Sheridan, who previously worked with Annable Yellowstone. Annable played Lee, the son of Costner's character John Dutton, in the western series that finally killed him off in the first episode.

Although his time at the Dutton ranch was short, Annable said he was surprised at how much he enjoyed the cowboy lifestyle. “I'm from New York. I've been on a horse twice in my life,” he told PEOPLE in 2023. “I had no idea how much I would love being a cowboy and being in the mountains of Montana and beyond.” a horse. Yellowstone concludes the fifth and final season, with the first of the final six episodes premiering on November 10th. The continuation of the series, The MadisonMichelle Pfeiffer will play the leading role in it.
