The Lions lost edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson in Sunday's win over the Cowboys, leaving a significant hole in the team's defense.

At this point, Hutchinson currently leads the league with 7.5 sacks, despite Detroit receiving a bye earlier in the season.

But head coach Dan Campbell said Wednesday that GM Brad Holmes and his staff will take their time and do their due diligence first if the Lions want to make a move for another defensive end.

“Look, Brad knows the ins and outs what it would take to win someone oversaid Campbell. “I don't know all of them, but I know enough to know that someone who is…highly productive, 6-foot-4, 285 pounds, runs 4.4 (40), and has 35-inch arms, those guys are falling not just from trees. Do you want to trade Hutch for this guy? So some of that certainly has commercial value. It is also a contract. How does this impact our future and who we want to sign for the future?

“Look, we’re open to everything. Brad is working on it. We won't be in a hurry. Brad would tell you – man, he does his homework. The crew is doing their homework. They look at everything. But we won't just do something to make it happen. It has to be right. It has to be the right person and everything has to fit together.”

The Lions do have some time to work out the details since the trade deadline doesn't end until Nov. 5 – just after Week 9. But Campbell pointed out that it shouldn't just be because some trade talks are heating up at that point the deadline.

“I think it’s literally about doing your homework,” Campbell said. “You sift through things, not just what's on the tape, but also what else is out there that you don't really know about. You look at someone and you think, “Well, I might be open to it, but you have 24 hours.” Well, there's something going on, you know?

“So, Brad is there. He looks at everything. Nothing is off the table. But we are in no hurry.”

The Lions will play their first game without Hutchinson this weekend when they face the Vikings in Minnesota.
